The Zimbabwe Football Association has promised members of the Warriors national soccer team much larger bonuses than is customary if they pull out a victory in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Cape Verde on Saturday.
ZIFA officials declined to state the amount of the bonuses which have been promised but sources told reporter Michael Kariati each player would receive some $3,500 - 10 times the normal victory bonus which players might expect to receive as an incentive.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Football Association has written to the International Federation of Association Football or FIFA and the Confederation of African Football in protest saying that it has reason to believe a key match on Saturday between Liberia and Mali will be fixed.
FIFA said it has sent officials to monitor the match in Monrovia, the Liberian capital.
ZIFA Chief Executive Jonathan Mashingaidze told VOA reporter Blessing Zulu that his organization has obtained evidence suggesting Liberia will roll over for Mali.
Mali could clinch a finals berth in the Cup of Nations if it defeats Liberia, whereas Liberia has no mathematical chance of qualifying for the finals at this juncture.
